The term REALTOR® has one, and only one, meaning:
REALTOR® is a federally registered collective membership mark which identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics.
This is YOUR Association
You are in business for yourself, but you are not alone. By joining the Kent Washington Association of REALTORS® you are entering into a “Three-way Agreement” with Rhode Island Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®; and as such, you have a wealth of professional resources at your disposal. With this agreement, the National Association grants each association and board the right to control the terms “REALTOR®” and “REALTOR-ASSOCIATE®” within its territorial jurisdiction. It also permits associations and boards to allow individuals who are qualified for membership to use the terms REALTOR® and REALTOR-ASSOCIATE®. In turn, the state and local associations and boards agree to:
- Accept the charge of properly granting & regulating the use of the term REALTOR®
- Subscribe to the Code of Ethics of the National Association
- Uphold & enforce the Code of Ethics within the board’s/association’s jurisdiction
Each REALTOR® Association/Board have its own unique proposition and services; but together the combined structure gives the REALTORS® a powerful voice and influence. As your local REALTOR® Association we are here to help you make the most of your membership and untap your professional potential.
